Chapter Spotlight: Jackson High School HOSA Students host free physicals for the Special Olympic Athletes

Each spring, JHS HOSA students host free physicals for all of the athletes that will participate in the Butts County Schools Spring Special Olympic Track & Field event. There are over 35 students from kindergarten through twelfth grade that are bussed over to be examined at this event. A local pediatrician comes in to assess HOSA students abilities to check height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, BMI, vision, reflexes/sensitivity and mobility/strength for each patient. Once it is decided their skills are strong enough to make the needed assessments, they begin to evaluate the assortment of patients in age and disability.
