Chapter Spotlight: Loganville High School Farm Day

The Loganville High School HOSA chapter often gives back through community service at Master’s Touch Recreational Riding. Located in Social  Circle,  Georgia, Master’s Touch is a recreational riding and education program emphasizing equine-assisted motor and sensory development for people of all ages and skill levels. The sessions are for children and adults with physical, mental, sensory, or emotional disabilities. They also allow students the opportunity to experience control of a horse while sitting in a cart. The service provides a riding alternative for those unable to ride in a saddle due to weight, balance, fatigue, allergies, fear of heights, asthma, anxiety, or who cannot sit astride. Activities are created to specifically improve motor skills, sensory integration, self-worth, social skills, communication skills,  coordination, emotional control, and more. Through another program, Special needs participants will learn how to care for a horse and do activities to help with organization, life skills, and communication. Once this class has been taken students will have the chance to become Certified LIFE Volunteers which will allow them to help at special events with tasks that include greeting customers, grooming horses, and setting up for holiday events, field trips, and other farm events.

To help make this all possible, our HOSA chapter donates hours of community service to help in whatever ways are needed to help keep the facility clean and running smoothly. As a chapter, we have painted buildings and arenas, helped clean the sensory trails, helped clean animal stalls and pens, created games and structures, and so much more. We find that as a chapter we love going out to the farm and giving back!
