Chapter Spotlight: Mount Zion High School Brings Light to the Darkness of Cancer
Light the Night Atlanta is an annual event at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, GA hosted by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to raise awareness and funds for blood cancer research. Participants gather to walk with illuminated lanterns, each color symbolizing a different connection to the fight against leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers. White lanterns represent survivors and those currently battling cancer, red lanterns symbolize supporters of those battling cancer, and gold lanterns are carried in memory to honor those who have lost their lives to the disease. Before the walk began, a powerful speech was given at the front, honoring the lives lost to blood cancer and recognizing the strength of those affected. The speaker asked everyone to raise their lanterns high in solidarity, creating a breathtaking moment of unity. During the Light the Night event, our HOSA chapter played an active role by volunteering in various stations. We helped distribute t-shirts, passed out water to the participants of the event, and gave out Chick-fil- A to event sponsors. One of our most meaningful tasks was handing out the illuminated lanterns to the walkers, ensuring that each person could represent their connection to the cause. After the walk, there was a spectacular fireworks show, adding to the emotional and celebratory atmosphere. In addition to our volunteer work, our chapter participated in the walk, showing our dedication to supporting the fight against leukemia. Volunteering for Light the Night was not only a rewarding experience but also a powerful reminder of the importance of community in the fight against cancer!
