Officer Update: January

Your state executive council hopes you all have had an amazing holiday break, and you all are ready to hit the ground running for the remainder of the HOSA year. With the CTSO Day at the Capitol, the State Leadership Conference, the International Leadership Conference, and so much more on the horizon for this new year, let us take a moment to highlight each event and let you all know what you can expect.

Starting on January 10th and ending January 17th is State Qualification Testing for the State Leadership Conference. Take the time to finish studying and preparing for your events so you prepared for your test. The Top 40 competitors in the state will be released by January 24th, 2020,  however if you happen to not place in the top 40 in the state, there is no need to worry because you still have the opportunity to compete at SLC, but in an event that does not require a State Qualification Test. To find all of the events that do not require a State Qualification Test, you can click HERE to take you to the Competitive Events Quick Reference Guide.

Next up is CTSO Day at the Capitol, which is open to members and advisors of CTSOs across the state of Georgia. Georgia HOSA has been given the opportunity to be apart of this day of networking and showcasing its members’ voices to Georgia’s legislators on February 13, 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia. We do ask that members come dressed in the Official HOSA Uniform or professional dress, and advisors are responsible for ensuring members are in their official dress the entire day. Use this day as an opportunity to speak your minds on the importance of CTSOs, such as Georgia HOSA, and how they have impacted your education. Please make sure to call or e-mail your legislator a head of time with the time you will be present at the Capitol and be sure to bring along appropriate items that your legislator can hold onto even after you and your advisor leave. Perhaps the largest event for Georgia HOSA members is the State Leadership Conference, which will be held on March 5th-7th, 2020 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Over 4,200 members, advisors, and guests are present at SLC, making it the largest in the WORLD! With this year being the 20th anniversary of Georgia HOSA, there are plenty of surprises in store for members and advisors alike. There will be numerous symposiums, exhibitors, and workshops open to keep members engaged while Opening Session promises to be as entertaining as ever. The opportunity to win medals at the Grand Awards Session and advance to the International Leadership Conference should be enough motivation to keep studying after your State Qualification Test to make sure you end up on the stage! For a glimpse into what the largest SLC in the world looks like, watch last year’s SLC Flashback Video.

The highlight of any HOSA members’ year is the International Leadership Conference. It is there that members can not only interact and network with members from across the globe, but they can also show off their competitive skills and knowledge in their events. This year’s ILC will be held in Houston, Texas on June 24th-27th, 2020, and the best way to get yourself there is to make sure you are constantly studying for your competitive event now in order to place in the Top 3 at SLC and advance to ILC. Make sure to check out HOSA’s ILC tab on the website by clicking HERE !

We are in for an exciting year, so make sure you are prepared to move Towards Tomorrow with Georgia HOSA, and we cannot wait to see you all in Atlanta, Georgia March 5th – 7th, 2020 for the State Leadership Conference!
